Redefining Flavor: Why We’re Saying Yes to "Low Sodium, Big Flavor"
Feb 13th 2025
If you’ve ever looked at the back of a frozen pizza box or a bottle of BBQ sauce, you’ve probably seen some staggering numbers. For many of us, processed foods are the "hidden" source of most of the salt in our diets.
At Cecelia Foods, we believe you shouldn't have to choose between heart health and the meals you love. We’re here to redefine what "low sodium" tastes like.
The "Why" Behind the 1,500 mg Goal
You might have heard the 1,500 mg number mentioned in health circles. It’s the "ideal" daily sodium limit recommended by the American Heart Association for most adults.
Why 1,500 mg? Because our bodies—and especially our hearts—thrive when we aren’t overloaded with excess salt. Clinical studies have consistently shown that reducing sodium can lower blood pressure and significantly decrease the risk of heart-related issues. For many, cutting back by just 1,000 mg a day can make a world of difference in long-term wellness.
The Problem with "Standard" Convenience
The challenge is that salt is often used to mask a lack of quality ingredients in mass-produced food. When a company relies on heavy salt to provide "flavor," it’s hard for the actual taste of real ingredients—the herbs, the spices, the quality of the dough—to shine through.
We decided to flip the script. Instead of relying on the salt shaker, we’re focusing on:
-
Quality Ingredients: Starting with the best base so we don’t need to hide anything.
-
Culinary Creativity: Using fresh herbs, citrus, vinegars, and spices to build layers of flavor that actually excite the palate.
-
Transparency: We want you to know exactly what’s in your food, which is why we’re aiming for those lower sodium targets without sacrificing that "comfort food" feeling.
